Botanical Description:
Habit:A large, glabrous twiner with tuberous roots.
Stem:Stem sometimes prostrate.
Leaves: Leaves palmately divided to or beyond the middle into usually 7-9 segments, each segment ovate, lanceolate or oblong, entire, acuminate, glabrous.
Flowers: Flowers few to many in axillary or terminal cymes with peduncles generally longer than the petioles.Sepals equal or sunequal, orbicular, oblong orelliptic, obtuse, concave, coriaceous, glabrous. Corolla funnel-shaped, 5-6 cm long, limb 5-7 cm across, pale reddish-purple, tube darker inside.
Androecium: Stamens included, filaments hairy at the base.
Fruits: Fruita capsule, ovoid, glabrous, 2-celled, 4-valved.
Seeds: Seeds black with long wooly-sericeous hairs.
Economic Importance: Roots are considered as tonic and laxative, and also used in scorpion sting.
