Main Features of the Variety

Developed byBangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur, Bangladesh.
Method of development/originThis variety was selected and developed from a local germplam “Shibnagar” from Comilla district of Bangladesh
Year of release 1989
Main characteristics High yielding early maturing variety , plants are relatively strong and stout,   plant medium height(120cm), leaf green, stem hard, leaves are broad, panicles are long(18cm), thick, compact and hairy, creamy colored seed, 1000 grain weight 2.3-2.5 g. Yield comparatively 30-35% more than local variety.
Planting season and time Rabi: November 15 to December 15 in southern parts. It can also be grown in March 15 to April 15 as intercrop (Kharif).
Harvesting timeRipening  in rabi season 105-115 days and 85-95 days in karif season
YieldYield in Rabi season 2-2.5 t/ha and in Kharif  season yield is lower than Rabi season
Resistance/toleranceTolerant to stem rot disease.
